RORC CARIBBEAN 600

This event has rapidly become a Caribbean favourite to stand up alongside such offshore race classics the Fastnet, Newport-Bermuda and Sydney-Hobart events.

Starting and finishing in Falmouth Harbour, Antigua, the mecca of Caribbean yacht racing, this 600 mile course takes competitors around, or past, 13 of the Leeward islands from Isles des Saintes in the south to Anguilla in the north.

Conceived over a beer at Antigua Yacht Club by John Burnie of the RORC and a few AYC members, the C600 was first raced in 2008, this event has already attracted 60 of some of the most stunning racing machines around from all over the globe for this rapidly growing Caribbean event.

ANTIGUA SAILING WEEK

This event is world renowned for its excellent organisation, a wide variety of courses, competitive racing, and superb conditions.

Yachts from all over the world arrive in English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour each year to participate in one of the world’s premier sailing events, Antigua Sailing Week. This regatta has developed over many years to become one of the foremost yacht racing events in the Caribbean. Its international status ensures its ongoing fame worldwide.

Over 200 yachts participate each year, ranging in size from 24 to over 100 feet. The Regatta attracts serious racing boats including state-of-the-art, high-tech racing machines, along with a variety of performance cruising and cruising boats.

ANTIGUA CLASSIC YACHT REGATTA

The Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta has maintained a steady growth, hosting between 50 and 60 yachts every year and enjoys a wonderful variety of competitors, including traditional craft from the islands, classic ketches, sloops, schooners and yawls making the bulk of the fleet, together with the stunningly beautiful Spirit of Tradition yachts, J Class yachts and Tall Ships. Together, these make a wonderful sailing spectacle in the ideal trade wind sailing conditions of the Caribbean. The sailing combined with Antiguan hospitality, plenty of rum, sunshine, and great camaraderie in a friendly relaxed atmosphere, places the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, in a class of its own.

SUPER YACHT CHALLENGE ANTIGUA

The challenge is held in Antigua in late January or early February when yachts in excess of 80 feet are invited to participate in an exciting, friendly event – the Superyacht Challenge Antigua!

The SYCA Committee headed by Paul Deeth and Stan Pearson host three days of spectacular racing using the ORCsy rating rule. The regatta is sailed under the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 (RRS) – modified and using the Low Point Scoring System.

From a Start/Finish line off the entrance to English Harbour, the course marks for the three 12 – 30 mile (approx) Pursuit Races are set daily according to the prevailing conditions off the south coast of Antigua.

OPTINAM – The North American Optimist Championships

Having “dipped our toes” into the waters of International Dinghy Sailing Championships with the 2015 ‘Optinam’ , we were understandably delighted and proud to be offered the event again in 2016.

Some 144 sailors came from 20 countries to compete in these Championships sailed on the Atlantic Ocean off English Harbour.

Antigua entered a team of 4 sailors which included Louis Bavay, River Andrews, Giles de Jager and Maria Eldridge. They were a credit to the AYC Youth Sailing Programme that has brought them all to this level of International Competition.
