Day 1

The first day of the Budget Marine HighTide Series took place in what could be considered to be “spirited” conditions, with the X-mas winds making themselves felt. In the harbour the wind was just north of east averaging 17 knots, gusting to 25, while just outside the harbour the boats were getting up to 30 knots and rough seas.

Five boats decided to brave the conditions, completing a shortened course starting well inside the harbour. From there they went out to the harbour entrance, round a mark off Turtle Bay and back into the harbour to the finish. Both races took about 35 mins, more than long enough given the conditions.

In the second race Regardless broke her forestay off Turtle Bay, but due to excellent seamanship (and a little bit of luck!) managed to save the mast and will hopefully be up and ready to go for the next race on the 22nd.

The day culminated in a mini prize giving and talk of “daring do” at Bar-Bs.
