DOMINICA DISASTER RELIEF

The total funds received from AYC Members, friends and fund raising has reached EC$22,278.90 and a wire transfer is being made to the Dominica Marine Association who is, together with other donations received, buying goods in the U.S. which will be shipped duty and transport free to Dominica.

The AYC Doninica Disaster Relief sub-Committee discussed the best way in which to use the funds raised and, in consultation with the President of the Dominica Marine Association, it was decided to send the money to the Dominica Marine Association which has no overhead cost in managing relief and will apply all funds raised to the purchase of goods.

The Antigua Yacht Club wishes to thank all those who contributed whether by cash or goods and regardless of amount as all contributions are considered to be of equal value.

The fund will remain open until after the AGM in case any Members returning to the island wish to make a donation in person.  The donation web page will also remain available until the same date.

We know other left goods but did not leave their names and, in the confusion, we may have neglected to note some names.  We thank all those who have contributed to help Dominica.

On August 27th, 2015, the Commonwealth of Dominica, a small island of only 289 square miles in the Caribbean, was hit by Tropical Storm Erika, resulting in widespread catastrophic damage and death.

Twenty people are confirmed dead and others are still missing. Damage to homes and local businesses has left hundreds homeless and many without a means of income. Many major bridges were destroyed and the roadways have been rendered impassible.  Access to essential services including communications, electricity and clean water has been severely disrupted.

To compound matters, the main airport on the island was severely damaged, keeping much needed relief supplies from getting to those who so desperately need relief.

Those of you that rather send in monetary donations you can complete the form below and the Antigua Yacht club will pass on your donation in full.

The AYC Dominica Disaster Relief Committee met last night (2nd September) and agreed to consider alternatives to passing over cash raised such as buying much needed supplies which can be obtained at very low cost and shipping them to Dominica.  The AYC Committee wishes to make best use of funds raised and ensure they reach those most in need.

Please give generously.
